We’ve always recognized how essential independent pharmacies are to the communities they serve, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only further highlighted their substantial value. Pharmacy networks and professional organizations, like the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) and the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN), advocate on the behalf of independent pharmacies and often serve as a bridge between them and government entities such as the CDC and state health departments. If you’re not a member of these organizations, now’s the time to join as they help work towards adapting and improving COVID vaccine response and administration. As more vaccines become widely available, it’s important that you be ready to activate and administer.
Use the new cloud-based RedSail Patient Chart to log and track patient clinical findings such as lab and vital measurements, allergies, social history, and history of present illness. This information, as well as patient problems and pharmacy-made consultations, can be documented in a Pharmacist Electronic Care Plan (PeCP) directly from the Patient Chart. The data can then be submitted to the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN) if the pharmacy has enabled the RedSail Patient Chart and signed a CPESN Service Authorization form.

HHS Amendment Increases Workforce
Effective March 11, 2021, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released an amendment to the COVID-19 Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act. The amendment permits retired pharmacists and pharmacy interns to help administer COVID-19 vaccinations.
Though the pandemic has shifted consumer behaviors, patients still visit their pharmacist more than any other healthcare provider. And those visits build a personal connection, which results in trust. According to a national survey by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), more than 8 in 10 adults (85%) prefer getting prescriptions from their local independent pharmacy over using mail order. B. Douglas Hoey, pharmacist, MBA, NCPA CEO, said, “Most Americans clearly are not willing to substitute personal care for the perception of convenience.”
QS/1 released Service Pack 19.1.34 for its pharmacy management systems. We encourage you to download and install it at your earliest convenience to receive the latest software enhancements.
