Medi-Cal Changes Affecting California Pharmacies

Medi‑Cal is rolling out two important requirements in 2026 that could impact claim processing for California pharmacies:

• Prescriber Enrollment Required (Effective June 26): Claims will reject if the prescriber is not enrolled in Medi‑Cal. Pharmacies are already seeing warning messages and may need to contact prescribers to ensure enrollment.
• Diagnosis Codes Required This Fall: Medi‑Cal will begin requiring ICD‑10 diagnosis codes on all pharmacy claims. PioneerRx supports this, but prescribers must include the code on the prescription.

Because claim edits can eat into valuable staff time, we have a new tool to help, available at a great price.

QS/1 customers can now access Edit+, a service that automatically checks and corrects claims to reduce errors, protect reimbursements, and lower your audit risk.
